Location - How to Find St Columba's
Maps
See the street map marked with the location of the church:
Bing Maps (formerly Multimap).
(the church is actually diagonally across the road from the location arrow) or, if you prefer, put the address (below the picture to your right) in your own favourite locator.
St Columba's is located on the south side of Glasgow Road. The building has a hedge around it and is slightly set back from (and below) the road.
By train?
Even on Sundays, train services from Edinburgh and Glasgow are frequent. For details, see
scotrail.co.uk (or telephone 0870 606 2031).
From the station, you have perhaps 1 km (3/4 mile) to walk. Route details to follow, but for now see the car instructions!
By car?
Bathgate is just off the M8 Motorway, and St Columba's lies to the west of Bathgate on Glasgow Road, the road west through Armadale which years ago was the old A8 and is now the A89.
From Edinburgh, exit at Junction 3a (locally, "Boghall"). Follow the road signs for Bathgate, which will take you onto Edinburgh Road. Continue along this road, which keeps you just below the town centre. You will pass the old (1990s) Bathgate Railway station on your left. Continue further along this road until you reach a roundabout, at the western end of the town centre. Go straight across the roundabout (that is, take the second exit) and you're on Glasgow Road. St Columba's is located on the left, some 300m after the roundabout
From Glasgow, exit at Junction 4, onto the A801. Follow the road signs for Bathgate, which means you turn half right at the second roundabout after leaving the motorway. Follow this road, the B7002 Whitburn Road; turn left after crossing the railway at the roundabout, then left again at a second roundabout, which puts you on Glasgow Road. The church is on your left some 300m after the roundabout.
Parking
There is limited parking - very limited parking - behind the church building (when heading west, towards Armadale, take the road immediately before St Columba's).
You may also be able to park on Hardhill Road (B708), which is (again when heading west) the first on the right immediately after St Columba's.
